Ein Theater machen: ein unnützes Geschrei, Aufhebens machen, Getue, Gezeter, Effekthascherei; seit dem 20. Jahrhundert umgangssprachlich verwendet; verstärkend ist der Ausdruck ›Affentheater‹, Affe.
   Theater spielen: in der übertragenen Bedeutung von: etwas vortäuschen, jemandem etwas vormachen, ›vorspielen‹. Ein ›Theatercoup‹ ist eine unerwartete, überraschende Wendung einer Entwicklung.
   Demnächst in diesem Theater: bald wieder am selben Ort sich treffen wollen. Diese Wendung ist eigentlich die formelhafte Ankündigung eines Films im Kinoprogramm.
